New Parents

Welcome to Lake Highland!

We welcome you to the Lake Highland Preparatory School family! We hope that the following information will help you become better acquainted with our school. You may also access the school website at www.lhps.org for information you will need throughout the year, including the 2010-2011 calendar, dress code, athletic information, registration forms, homework assignments, academic programs, school clubs, and much more.

New Parent Ambassadors

Many Lower, Middle, and Upper School families have volunteered to serve as New Parent Ambassadors to help make the transition for you and your child easy and comfortable. The Ambassadors’ role is to answer any questions you have about our school and the upcoming year. Do not hesitate to call any of these families if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to meeting you at the New Parent Orientation.

New Parent Orientation

You will be invited to attend the orientation for new parents at the beginning of the school year. Members of the Lake Highland Parent Association, administration, and faculty will be on hand to share information about the upcoming year and to answer any questions you might have.

The Source

The Source, Lake Highland’s school store, is located on the bottom floor of the Rex Building. The Middle School Source is located across from the Middle School Office at the Charles Clayton Campus. The Source is the exclusive supplier of Lake Highland outerwear, Spirit Day shirts, and PE uniforms. Additionally, The Source carries a limited selection of Sunshine ties, socks and belts. A wide variety of LHPS merchandise and school supplies are also available at The Source.

Keep in mind that whenever it is necessary to wear a sweatshirt, sweater or jacket, only LHPS outerwear is permitted in the classrooms.

Spirit Days occur every Friday and, occasionally, on designated days throughout the year. On these days, students may wear Spirit clothing – LHPS T-shirt and plain denim shorts, skorts or jeans. The shorts and skorts must be of approved length and no cut-offs or frayed edges are permitted.

Physical Education uniforms are required for all 5th – 8th grade students enrolled in PE. Most families choose to purchase at least two sets of PE clothes to avoid nightly laundering.Students in 9th- 12th grades taking Personal Fitness may wear any Lake Highland t-shirt along with appropriate athletic shorts.

Security

All parents receive an identification badge and parking decal from the Security Office. New families will receive their ID badges and decals with their youngest child’s textbooks in the classroom on Orientation Day. The identification badge is required for admittance on campus. Please wear it for security reasons and to help the LHPS family learn your name. If you forget your badge, please check in at the Security Office in the gym on the main campus or at the main office of the Charles Clayton Campus for a temporary badge. If you are not wearing a badge, you will be stopped by LHPS faculty or staff members and asked to check-in at the appropriate office for a badge.

Security staff will be in the gym foyer on Orientation Day to assist parents. Should you have any questions regarding campus security, please contact Conan Bickford, Security, Safety and Transportation Manager, at 407-206-1900 ext. 1400.
